Herman Cain rises, Rick Perry slides in new CBS News poll - Brian Montopoli

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20115655-503544.html

Cain's recent support has nothing to do with Herman Cain. Well, at least not much. The bloom is off the Perry rose and the "protest vote" is looking for a home. Having already left The Donald early in the summer for Michele Bachmann only to leave her for Rick Perry, this voter had no natural home except the quirky and mercurial Herman Cain. Until the Florida straw poll he was just filler, a Gingrich without the marital baggage, a Santorum without the stupid look. Once he won the straw poll his name was in everyone's mouth just as Rick Perry started floundering after his dreadful debates. The Establishment Right's two-week assault on Perry managed to stall him and voters who still shun Romney needed a new man...again. And here he is for the next ten days.
