Romney Turns To Killer Instinct To Win Florida

Romney and his allies ultimately poured roughly $16 million into Florida television advertising. Restore Our Future, the "super" political action committee supporting Romney, began running Florida ads in mid-December. The candidate and the super PAC also launched an aggressive campaign to court absentee and early voters.
Gingrich was overmatched in Florida on all those fronts. He and his allies turned their attention to the state several weeks after Romney's team had begun its work. He hired local staffers just a month before the election. And he never had the money to compete. Gingrich and his allies spent a quarter of Romney's total — roughly $4 million — on Florida advertising.

Romney won by 14 points. Republican turnout was down 10% from 2008 (51% to 41%). It is worth mentioning that this is still a contest between a unwanted hero and a clown not actually running for president. That clown is not going to have much of a shot in the upcoming primaries (Colorado, Nevada, Missouri) but on Super Tuesday (March 6th) states like Tennessee and Oklahoma could buoy him, followed soon after by Alabama and Mississippi. Newt's support will dry up as there is not another debate until February 22nd, so watch for him to go super-mega-negative on the talk shows over the next three weeks in an effort to draw cash via his outrageous statements. This race is so not over yet.
