The Coming GOP Gingrich Freakout - David Frum

http://www.frumforum.com/the-coming-gop-gingrich-freakout

Frum paints a picture of the GOP convention if Gingrich is the delegate leader at that point. Keep in mind that the GOP is now a proportional primary, meaning that even if you don't win a primary you get some delegates, meaning that at the end of the process some also-rans with delegates who are agreeable might be able to put someone from second place over the top. If Gingrich were in the lead as the convention arrives, he foresees intense panic.

I argue that the panic should be going on right now. Up to now each of the primary leaders has given way to the next one after 6-8 weeks, as Frum points out. My problem with that is that they base switched their preferences only when another option became available. This time there is no other option available. 8 weeks from now, if Gingrich implodes, there is only Romney, which they have already rejected. Even worse, some primaries will already be in the books.

Gingrich is not going to have time to destroy himself. The Republicans will have to do it for him.
