Part of what keeps me from becoming outright Republican, aside from the social cons, is the fact that it seems a lot of the conservative "apparatus", talk radio, websites, TV, magazines, direct mail, etc. seems set up specifically to rip off the people that it allegedly serves. The ads there are cheesy and misleading, playing on the fears of the elderly and misinformed. Penis creams, erectile disfunction and quack medicine ads abound. Police scanners and advice to invest in terrible gold schemes play on the fears of the misinformed. Clearly the hosts know that they are dogin a disservice, but I can't help but think that their philosophy is that if these rubes are dumb enough to hand money over to them for misinformation, that's their fault. I guess to a certain extent they are correct, but to another extent it keeps me from voting Republican.
