With Jacoby Ellsbury [stats] coming off an MVP-caliber season in center field, the Sox are all set at that position but only for the next two seasons, after which Ellsbury becomes a free agent. He had as good of a year as Sizemore ever had in his peak from 2006-08, and they have similar styles and tools.
The Sox have Josh Reddick and Ryan Kalish as minor league options for the position. The two, like Sizemore, Ellsbury and Drew, are left-handed hitters.
Sizemore has not played a corner outfield position as a major leaguer, but he would have to be considered a worthy heir to Drew, whose defense in Fenway Park [map]’s spacious right field usually sparkled.
