“It wasn’t that (the Red Sox weren’t loyal),” Papelbon said. “It’s just the simple fact that the Phillies showed they were interested in me. I wanted to make this decision quick and get it over with. The Phillies showed the utmost loyalty to me. I didn’t want to sit there and debate whether I should go back to Boston or come here. The Phillies showed they wanted me, so I showed the same respect.”
